Path to the Truth Truth

The last week of January 2019 would go down in the annals of history as another week in which the arctic blast gripped the Midwest and the Northern USA;  wrapping us all, from North Dakota, through Wisconsin, Iowa, Northern Illinois and Ohio to New York City  in bone-chilling temperatures.  New York City temperature nose-dived to 40 degrees Fahrenheit below zero with the wind chill factor.  Dangerously cold temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit below zero with the wind chill factor hits Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin while Northern Illinois and Iowa had their share of 35 degrees Fahrenheit below zero.

Some schools of thought consider the condition as bad as, if not worse than the North Polar Vortex outbreak of 2014; an extreme weather condition which resulted in 21 deaths and affected over 200 million people running through the entire North Central and Upper Eastern United States.

The average daily temperature for the 6th of January in 2014 was calculated to be 17.9 degrees Fahrenheit. The last time the average daily temperature fell below 18 degrees was the 13th of January 1997, i.e. seventeen years before the 2014 incident.

Thus lately, the Deep Freeze has been gripping us, with increasing frequency of occurrence. Slightly a year ago; in the last week of December 2017 through the first week of January 2018, bitter cold took hold of the Northern and Central United States, and spreading over  to South Texas.  International Falls, Koochiching County, Minnesota plunged to 37 degrees Fahrenheit below zero, breaking an old record set in 1924. Hibbing, Minnesota’s temperature dropped to 28 degrees Fahrenheit below zero breaking a record set back in 1964 and Nebraska dipped to a temperature 15 degrees Fahrenheit below zero breaking a record dating to 1884.

No doubt these events are descending upon us with increasing rapidity and severity. This cannot but throw one into a deep reflection.

Like any other physical body, the earth has to follow the natural cycle of birth, development and decay. In an aging human body, signs of wears and tears cannot but show themselves; the immune system weakens,  body muscles lose their elasticity, accumulated toxins begin to show their effect  and previously unheard of diseases and conditions begin to make their appearances.. ..

…And so it is with our dear earth. We are indeed within its decaying phase and we are clearly seeing the signs.  Compounding the natural effects of the aging process is man’s aggressive exploitation of the earth while turning a blind eye to restoration and preservation. We are directly speeding the earth through its aging process.  It’s a well-known fact that; baring accidents and some other circumstances, a well-cared for human body runs through a longer life span than one abused through neglect or intoxication.

Physically, our destructive activities; deforestation, fracking, excessive chemical usage and dumping etc. with their resulting effects like pollution, erosion etc. are directly resulting in the destruction and weakening of the natural buffers against the causative agents of extreme weather conditions and the accompanying restorative mechanism provided for by the Creator.

In the spiritual sense, our evil deeds and thoughts cannot but have their own effects on the earth. They are like heavy weights which slow down the intrinsic, non-material motion of the earth; a necessity for its self- restoration. Consider, dark, evil thoughts weigh down a normal human being while noble thoughts and deeds give one a sense of buoyancy. Lack of motion leads to stagnation, putrefaction and death.

In the natural order of things, so long as we continue on this path, we cannot but continue to experience these extreme, adverse weather conditions; deep freeze, heat waves, tornadoes and the like with increasing rapidity.

May we prove ourselves worthy of the wonderful gift of life!
